Don't fear the rain

Hurry. Quick. Run. All words that might come to mind if you’re caught in the rain. Not me. I can’t remember when I heard it but the Chinese proverb says it better than I could ever explain my thoughts to anyone caught out in it with me:

A wet man does not fear the rain.”

For me, there’s something primal, slightly childish even about getting absolutely soaked through. I know I’m going to go home and get warmed up. I know I can only go as fast as my legs and walking stick will take me, so why stress? There’s no need. Just enjoy the moment, the refreshing natural baptism of millilitre after millilitre of rain which has fallen. For that chorus of rain drops, which have fallen from four kilometres above you in free-fall for the last seven minutes, to reach you. The lucky target!

What’s even more mind bending is they are sucked back up into the atmosphere to possible fall upon your head the next time it rains!

To me there’s something wonderfully poetic about the cycle of nature, in which we are mere audience members.
